Executive Function & Social Emotional
Self-Regulation Sessions
Bright Futures LAB carefully uses curriculum and teaches lessons for Small-Group or Private sessions that are student-centered and focused on K-12th Grade. Instruction is tailored based on data provided to us from the student’s Educational Institution and through the Initial Assessment conducted by Bright Futures LAB. Small Groups during Executive Function & Social Emotional Self-Regulation sessions are based on age and grade levels.
What is Executive Function & Social Emotional Self-Regulation?
Executive functions are a set of cognitive processes that are necessary for the cognitive control of behavior. The skills aid in selecting and successfully monitoring behaviors that facilitate the attainment of chosen goals.
Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that enable us to:
Plan
Focus Attention
Remember Instructions
Juggle Multiple Tasks Successfully
Just as an air traffic control system at a busy airport safely manages the arrivals and departures of many aircraft on multiple runways, the brain needs this skill set to:
Filter Distractions
Prioritize Tasks
Set and Achieve Goals
Control Impulses
When students have opportunities to develop executive function and self-regulation skills, individuals and society experience lifelong benefits. These skills are crucial for learning and social-emotional development. They also enable positive behavior and allow us to make healthy choices for ourselves and our families.
Executive function and self-regulation skills depend on three types of brain function:
Working Memory
Mental Flexibility
Self-Control.
These functions are highly interrelated, and the successful application of executive function skills requires them to operate in coordination with each other.
